ClickVPN routing selected traffic through VPN and selected traffic directly

Quick answer

Split Tunneling lets ClickVPN send some traffic through VPN and some traffic directly.

This is useful when a website, bank, local service, printer, router, TV, or another device does not work correctly while VPN is on.

In ClickVPN, Split Tunneling is controlled by three settings:

  • Auto Routing
  • Bypass Countries
  • Local Network

How to open Split Tunneling

  1. Open ClickVPN.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Open Split Tunneling.

The same menu names are used across supported ClickVPN apps.

Auto Routing

Auto Routing is the easiest option.

When it is on, ClickVPN automatically decides when selected local traffic should use a direct connection instead of VPN.

Use Auto Routing if you do not want to choose countries manually.

If Auto Routing is on, some manual country switches may be unavailable because the app is managing them for you.

Bypass Countries

Use Bypass Countries when websites or services from a selected country work better without VPN.

This can help with:

  • banks and payment pages;
  • government websites;
  • delivery and shopping services;
  • local streaming or media services;
  • websites that block VPN traffic.

When a country is enabled, ClickVPN tries to send supported websites and network traffic for that country directly.

It does not mean that every website from that country will always bypass VPN. Some services may still use VPN, depending on how the service is built and how its traffic is detected.

Local Network

Use Local Network if you want to keep access to devices near you while VPN is connected.

This can help with:

  • printers;
  • routers;
  • smart TVs;
  • media servers;
  • other devices on the same Wi-Fi network.

If you cannot reach a local device while VPN is on, make sure Local Network is enabled.

Important privacy note

Traffic that bypasses VPN uses your regular internet connection. It does not use the VPN exit location.

If you want as much traffic as possible to go through VPN, keep bypass options off unless you need them.

If something does not work

Reconnect VPN after changing Split Tunneling settings.

If Bypass Countries is not working yet, wait a moment and try again. ClickVPN may need to update routing information.

If a local device is not reachable, check that Local Network is enabled and that both devices are on the same Wi-Fi or local network.

If you want ClickVPN to handle this automatically, turn Auto Routing on. If you want to choose countries yourself, turn Auto Routing off first.
